This research project, which hypothesized the sustainable redevelopment of a disturbed urban site located within the Ground Zero impact zone, focused on the radical derivation of computational design techniques from auto-catalytic biological processes such as cellular automata, based on the elemental concepts of the axiomatic sustainable characteristics of biological processes. At the crux of this research are computational issues such as coding, adaptation and immanence of autonomous, button-up, rule based behavioral systems in the design process, which directly informed and creatively forced the enhancement of established sustainable principles in the design.
